Pierre-Alain Dauby, M.D., FAAAAI

Dr. Dauby is excited to offer a new treatment option for patients allergic to peanuts and cow milk called food oral immunotherapy (OIT).  In a series of scheduled visits at our office, small incremental amounts of peanut or milk are given to the patient by mouth in a controlled setting to desensitize the person to the foods. This therapy does not involve shots or medications.

After approximately 4-12 months of treatment, the majority of patients are able to eat usual and customary amounts of peanut or cow milk without incident or reaction.  A few may only be able to eat a limited amount of the food without incident or reaction. Only a small number of patients may not tolerate the therapy successfully.

This treatment is available to any patient five years or older with a food allergy to peanut or cow milk.  Later in the year, egg, soy, wheat, rice, and tree nuts will also be options at our office.

Although food OIT is well-studied, there is no consensus for a standard protocol to follow. Many allergists do not have the expertise, or choose not to perform this treatment.  However, there are numerous (>100) journal articles published in the leading allergy journals around the world all showing success with this therapy.

“I believe there is now enough evidence demonstrating that food OIT is effective and safe. I am excited to be able to offer a treatment which can be so life changing – for the better- in patients with food allergies.”

Dr. Dauby takes pride in offering his patients professional, state-of- the-art medical care, as well as the personalized attention they deserve.  Proudly serving the communities of Westmoreland County and beyond.
