BLOG: Evan’s Journey with OIT; by Leigh Ann and Evan

imageThere are over 50 OIT family blogs published in our Research & Learn library. They contain the journey of that family in OIT–some are in clinical trials, and others are in private practice. All the blogs are fascinating to read, full of wisdom and knowledge unique to that family’s journey.

This excerpt we have chosen hits on many of the key points of “Customized OIT.” Having an experienced doctor who can help reverse small things like time of eating to minimize any discomfort. She talks about rescheduling and getting extra doses mailed out since her OIT doctor isn’t local. We also like how OIT has helped her to become calmer after the pre-OIT reactions left her on edge.

We are on a roll!

So, we went back to Dr. Nash on 9/10/13 and up dosed to 75 mgs.. no issues at all!  All stomach problems seem to have disappeared… I know normal is to feed them good 30  minutes or so before dose, well I found I reversed that.. Fed him good after dose and that alleviated all symptoms! This shows you each child is different and this is why private practice OIT is so important because it can fit every type of child, in my opinion… I got to meet a little boy while in NC whose mom was instrumental in my fears during the beginning of OIT… he is so cute.

I don’t know if it is me or what, but I have always been the over protective parent with this allergy, with good reason.. but now after starting OIT, yes I have a bit of apprehension at each up dose, but I am so calm and relaxed about OIT now- I figure that after the reactions Evan had and we are doing this good, I can feel positive! I know anything can happen, but anything can happen anyday of his life, so I will just keep on rolling. We are suppose to go back for up dose to 100mgs on the 24th but that may be postponed.. Dealing with some sad personal things and not sure if will be able to make that trip, but called Dr. Nash this morning and he is mailing out extra doses, for just in case- such a huge relief.

Evan is doing really good with home/virtual school- been tough on him last few days with all the issues going on but he is trying and I am trying to stay on task with him too-best decision we ever made after OIT-

Not a long post but a very good one.. Take care and God Bless
